(Provided by CalPac, Wednesday, October 26, 2016)
The 2016 Presidential Election is less than two weeks away! In today's Variety Hour, Mrs. McKenna, Mrs. Pak, and Ms. Nguyen discussed the importance of voting, shared great resources for researching the candidates and their views, and outlined some of the Propositions that our state will be voting on on November 8th.
A few highlights from our hour together today...
1. If you're old enough to vote – VOTE! We know many CALPAC students aren't able to vote due to their age, but that doesn't mean the election and results don't have an impact on you. Even if you can't vote (yet), do you due diligence and research as if you could.
2. PBS has a great resource for all things election. Take a peek at past elections and how those candidates felt on similar issues that we're facing today. Get a better understanding of the election process. Understand the difference between the Electoral Vote and the Popular Vote. Visit PBS Election Central for more.
3. Missed one (or all three) of the debates? Interested in each candidate's stance on various "hot topics" this election? Visit WatchTheDebates.organd use the filter to find specific clips pertaining to your issue of interest. In our meeting today, teachers and students discussed Gun Control and Immigration.
4. This year, Californians have the opportunity to vote "Yes" or "No" onPropositions 51-67... that's a lot of propositions! Ballotpedia.org is a great resource to utilize to take a deeper look at teach proposition, what voting "yes" or "no" means, and to understand the implications of each.
