(Provided by CalPac, Friday, July 08, 2016)
Attending a virtual school requires students to be very self motivated and very self sufficient. It falls upon you as the student to ensure that you are staying on pace, completing all assignments, asking for help if you need it, attending live sessions, and completing your learning log every day.
All of these activities are going to make you a successful student and keep you moving forward on your path toward graduation. There are a number of reasons why each of the above activities which are important in your success in a virtual environment:
Asking for Help
If you are having trouble on any lesson- direct instruction, assignment or quiz it is very important that you ask your teacher for help. If you have already gone back to review the material and have failed the test again, it is best that you ask for guidance. Every teacher has office hours when he or she is available by phone, email or instant messaging. Many teachers will meet with you in their classrooms to review assignments in person.
Ask for help as soon as possible; Your teacher may give you some excellent pointers which will help you be successful for the remainder of the year. Remember to check your progress report regularly to make sure you are earning passing scores in each of your classes. If you are not, reach out to your teachers to ask for help.
Attending Live Sessions
Live Sessions are a crucial part of your success in an online learning environment. Live Sessions are where your teachers review the material you are learning in each of your classes. Teachers will highlight important information for you to know. They will also answer questions. If you are shy about asking questions yourself, one of your peers may ask the same question you had, thus giving you the opportunity to hear the answer without asking. Live Sessions also give you an opportunity to interact with your classmates. Live Sessions are your best chance to build relationships with both your teachers and friends.
Completing Your Learning log
At California Pacific Charter School, learning logs are due to your homeroom teacher at the end of every week. Learning Logs are not found in your courses. They are emailed to you by your teacher at the beginning of every learning period. It is up to you to save the logs to your computer and remember to fill them in each day with the activities you completed. It is especially important that you are recording activities which are not completed on line in your e2020 courses.
For example, exercising for PE, reading chapters in a novel, doing research for a project or studying with a friend or family member. The computer does not know that you did these things, so writing them in your log ensures that you are given proper credit and attendance for each day.
If you follow the guidelines above, you will increase your chances for being successful in online education enormously. And remember, if you ever have any questions about how to do anything, be sure to reach out to your homeroom teachers. They are you first point of contact and they are always there to help. Here’s to a very successful school year for each of you!
