(Provided by CalPac, Wednesday, August 10, 2016)
As a parent communication with your child's teacher can be limited to once a semester meetings and can be less seldom through e-learning. Thankfully, your child's teacher is only an email away but you don't want to be a bothersome parent so how do you know how to help your child? Take a look at the places to start getting involved in your child's e-learning experience.
As we quickly approach the middle of the semester at CalPac, it is more important than ever to make sure your child is on pace on his or her courses. Keeping on track now can help your child successfully pass his or her online course classes with good grades and avoid the end the semester rush. Here are some types to help your child successfully navigate the mid-semester hump.
Make sure they're checking the assignment calendar daily. This will show them what assignments they have due, and make sure they are completing all listed assignments. This is one of the most important things to do! Make sure your student is checking their calendar, this will keep them on track and help them finish on time with good grades.
Ask if they are attending all of the live sessions. Teachers are here to help, and live sessions are designed around the material your child is learning in their classes. Live sessions are a great time to ask questions and learn more about the material. Plus, they are a fun way to meet and chat with their teacher and classmates!
Have they met with his or her homeroom teacher? Homeroom teachers are a great resource to work through online classes. They can help with pacing, progress, scheduling tutoring, and any other questions. Meeting with a teacher virtually each week one-on-one will help tremendously.
Stay positive to help your child stay positive! Your student could be behind in certain classes, but there is time to get caught up and finish the semester successfully. Homeroom teachers can help by working on a plan to help your child work more efficiently in your courses. Encourage your child to not get overwhelmed, and just take it one day at a time.
Encourage them to keep working hard and complete work each day! The best way to take on track in online classes is to complete work Monday-Friday. The awesome thing about virtual education is the ability to work on your own schedule, so help him or her find a time of day that works best and stick to it!
You are one of the most important support systems your students have. They are counting on you to challenge them and encourage them.
