A Few Tips for Success to Get You To & Through Winter Break
(Provided by CalPac, Wednesday, December 07, 2016)
Only two more weeks of school until winter break! It’s a busy time of year – keeping up with your extracurricular activities, enjoying the cooler weather, and preparing for the holidays! In the midst of this season of fun, be sure you’re staying focused and on track with your school work as we approach this time off.
Here are a few tips for success to get you to and through winter break:
1. Make a Plan
Look at all the assignments, modules, papers, and/or projects that are due between now and the end of the semester on January 11th. Setting timelines for completing specific assignments and seeing the bigger picture will help you manage your time more efficiently. Remember, teachers will be unavailable during break so if you have questions or might have questions in the future, ask now!
2. Break it Up
Have a paper to write? Make a goal to complete one paragraph (or page) per day until its finished. Breaking up your assignments into smaller, more manageable pieces will decrease the stress of feeling behind.
3. Change of Scenery
It can be challenging to stay focused in your own house sometimes. Do you live near a public library? They often have Wi-Fi and are super quiet, allowing for focused reading and studying time. A change of scenery might be just what you need to finish those last few projects before or during winter break.
4. Use Your Time Wisely
Driving to a relative’s house for Christmas? Celebrating Hanukkah with friends and traveling out of town? Maximize your travel time by reading in the car. Or make flashcards and bring them to study during downtime after the big meal.
5. Play Catch Up
The end of the semester will come quickly once we return from the break. If you’re behind – which we hope you aren’t! – use the break to get caught up in your classes. Or even better, work ahead!
Best wishes for a warm, happy, and safe holiday season.
