Faculty Highlight: Nancy McKenna

Mrs. Nancy McKenna was born and raised in Long Beach, and she attended Millikan High School, where she graduated in a class of an astounding 1,200 students! Originally, she wanted to be a pilot in the Navy after high school, but asthma changed her plans.

After high school, she attended the University of California, Irvine where she majored in history and biology. During her time at UCI, she realized she wanted to teach high school history when she volunteered in the H.O.T teaching program. She wanted to inspire her students the way her high school history teachers had inspired her. She was also on the UCI rowing team and competed as an NCAA I rower. Rowing was one of her greatest athletic challenges! Upon completion of her B.A., she continued her schooling and earned her masters in history at American Public University and her teaching credential at Cal State, Long Beach.

While in school, she tutored for the AVID program at Stanford Middle School. After completion of her credential, she student taught at Fountain Valley High School before joining the wonderful teachers and staff at California Pacific Charter Schools in 2009. During her time here, she has taught American history, economics, government, world history, psychology, sociology, PE, 8th grade history, and human geography. She has loved every minute of her time here at CalPac. She truly enjoys working with her students and teaching them how exciting history can be.

Mrs. McKenna is married to her husband, Chris, and they have a very curious 4-year-old, Connor. They live in Irvine, and they enjoy going to air shows, watching sports, going to the zoo and aquarium, library, and many other fun things! Mrs. McKenna also enjoys reading, knitting, gardening, hockey, and watching bull riding.

Her biggest advice to students is to not give up. There might be times when it is hard and seems impossible, but there is always a way to achieve your dreams. Use the support of those around you, teachers, staff, counselors, principals, anyone and everyone to help you. Always strive to be your best and go after your passions in life!
