Getting to Know Miss Ellen Davison

(Provided by CalPac, Friday, January 06, 2017)

Miss Davison has proved an incredible asset to our math department over the last few years. We're so glad she decided to "switch coasts" from east to west years ago and joined our team. With a passion for teaching, learning, and online education - we know CalPac students are lucky to have her!

Name: Ellen Davison

Subject(s) currently teaching:
Geometry, Pre Calculus, Algebra 1B

Where are you from? If not from California, what brought you here and when?

"I grew up in NY then attended Northwestern University in the cold northern suburbs of Chicago. Two of my best friends were both from "sunny California" and convinced me to move west after college."

How long have you been at CalPac?

"This is my second year at CalPac and my sixth year teaching online."

Why teaching?

"I can't help it. If you find yourself at a social event with me, you will probably find me explaining the proof of the quadratic formula, demonstrating flute technique, or both."

Your favorite thing about online education:

"I love having the opportunity to work individually with my students on whatever concepts they need to practice."

When not teaching/working, what's your favorite way to spend time (hobbies, activities, etc.)?

"I enjoy playing music with my daughter and going on long hikes in the mountains."

Who Inspires You?

"My children. I have been homeschooling my children for the past 12 years. They are both naturally creative and bright, however I am more inspired by their ability to persist when faced with challenge."

Favorite quote:

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."- Michael Jordan

Best advice you've ever received:

"Don't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up. Do what you love to do and that will be your career."
