Getting to Know... Ms. Nancy McKenna

(Provided by CalPac, Friday, October 07, 2016)

Ms. McKenna has been an asset to CalPac for nearly 10 years and currently serves as our Social Studies Department Chair, in addition to teaching classes. Her affinity for history and economics has made an enormous impact on our school and students and we are so glad to have her on our team.

- Name:  Nancy McKenna
- Subject(s) currently teaching:  American history and economics
- Where are you from? Long Beach, California
- How long have you been at CalPac?  This is my 8th year

- Why teaching? And your favorite thing about online education:  I want to help students see how history connects to the world around us and shapes our futures.  We can learn a lot from the people and events of the past, and hopefully, we can start to figure out how to not repeat it.  I love online education because it gives students flexibility and access that is not available in other programs.

- When not teaching/working, what's your favorite way to spend time (hobbies, activities, etc.)?  Reading, traveling, cooking, baking, gardening

- Who Inspires You?  My dad.  He was one of the smartest, kindest, and most amazing person I have ever known.

- Favorite quote:  "Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life." – J.K. Rowling

- Best advice you've ever received:  "Put your head down and work hard. Never wait for things to happen, make them happen for yourself through hard work and not giving up."
