How to be Successful With Your Online Learning Experience
(Provided by CalPac, Thursday, July 23, 2015)
In order to be successful at California Pacific Charter Schools you need to stay on pace! Being at home can make it tempting to not put in enough effort into your school work, but you will only pass if you actually do your work.
There is no detention after school for those who are not completing work but there are academic contracts that you can be placed on if you are not performing and you could potentially risk being kick out of the school. Don’t let this happen to you.
Here are some tips to being the best rock star student you can be:
Check your organizer daily for each course- Each course is broken down per day. If you were ever wondering which assignments needed to be completed in a day your calendar has the answer. Copy and paste each day in to a calendar and then you will never wonder what you should do each day.
Make yourself a weekly schedule- This can be done from the calendar section of the organizer like discussed above. You can take each class and the lessons that need to be covered each day. Then put them at the specific hours of the day you want to work on. Schedule any activities that are not school related that you need to finished to make sure you have enough time set aside in your day for school. Remember you can work whenever you want during the day but you need to schedule at least an hour per course. If you need an idea of how to make a school schedule follow this link to see a typical day of some online students.
1 Online Lesson per day rule- A good rule of thumb is to complete one lesson( from beginning to end complete with the quiz) in each course per day. If you do this, you are guaranteed to be on pace in all of your courses.
Pay attention to Online Indicators-When you first log on you will get a color coded notice for each course allowing you to see if you are behind pace, on pace or ahead of pace. Pay attention to these to know if you have slipped in one of your classes and it needs your assistance right away.
Download BB IM- Sometimes when students feel frustrated or lost, they want to avoid that class and don’t want to work in it. Avoiding the class will not help you be successful and get the credits you need to graduate. If you download Black Board IM you will see your teachers logged on just waiting for the opportunity to explain a concept to you and watch you succeed.
Log into each class every week- There shouldn’t be a week that goes by where you don’t log in to every single class that you have. In order to be successful you need to be in every class each week. Make sure you schedule time for each of them.
Be proactive- Ask for help when you have failed a quiz or test. You won’t be able to move on until you get help and take it again so seek your teacher’s help so that you can understand what you are doing wrong and will be able to fix it next time.
Fill out your learning log daily- By filling out your log each day you will be able to see if you are turning in a t least one quiz per day and if you are logging in to each course every week. You can see if you are devoting more time to some classes than others and if you need to rethink your weekly schedule.
Take ownership of your school work- It is ultimately your future that will be affected by your performance online. Take pride in your education and set goals for yourself of what type of student you want to be. Each week set a mini goal to be on pace in each course and then set a goal to pass all your class this semester so you are that much closer to graduating high school and on your way to a successful future.
