(Provided by CalPac, Monday, September 12, 2016)
Having the freedom to work whenever and however you want for high school can be an amazing thing. You can juggle all those responsibilities that you have outside of school and stresses of life but yet still have time at home to better your future.
When it seems like you have way too much going on in your life to take time out to go to school, our online program allows you to break when you need and work when you are free. However, it can also be a double edge sword. Online learning is so flexible sometimes it gets push to the end of day and sometimes it doesn’t even happen at all.
However, being successful means you log in everyday and work on that day’s work. Thus, you will always need to find time to make school a priority too. It is important to schedule time in your hectic life for your online classes. Some tips that I have found to be successful for the online student are as follows:
Make a weekly schedule for yourself
Sit down and figure out just what you need to do that week and how long each activity will take. Block schedules work the best for this so that you can section off the appropriate amount of time for each activity. Once you have those items taken care of you can see where you will need to fit in your school work. You will want an hour per class per day. The key to remember is that you set this schedule for yourself and know what will work best for you and then sticking to it is what will keep you successful. Here is calendar template that can help keep your online schooling on track.
Print off a pace chart for each online class
Each class has a set schedule with Friday due dates. Printing your pace chart off will help you keep track of the items you completed and those that you still need to finish. It is easiest to either color code items completed vs. new items or simply check off those you have finished. This will keep you organized and prepared for each week.
Keep a notebook for each online class
Anything that can be a time saver will help you be successful when you go to work on each class. Having a notebook for each class by your computer allows you to have a place to take notes right away and keeps you focus on what class you are working on at the moment.
Look at each week in advance
Stay ahead of the game. Look at what you need to finish this week and how you should tackle those assignments but also look at the next week and see if you will you need more time to get things done or if the same amount of time will work. Knowing what is coming takes the shock out of things. If you see a test planned for the next week, you will know you will need to study hard and if you have extra time this week you can begin to prepare now. Think of yourself as a boy scout and always be prepared.
Stay connected with your online teacher
Your teacher should be your best friend! If you ever have any questions or need any help your teachers are there for you. They want to help, they sit and wait for the opportunity to fix a problem or help you solve an equation. Take advantage of the fact that you have one on one help at your finger tips and don’t sit in front of the computer struggling. If you have any trouble locating your teachers information in the online course you can always find the info on our website.
