Online- A step ahead

(Provided by CalPac, Thursday, June 21, 2012)

Have you ever wondered how prepared you were for college or the real world? Well, it may shock you to realize that by going to high school online you are preparing for a successful future already. California is in the process of requiring every high school student to take at least one online course. Why do you think it is so important that high school students experience an online classroom? Well, thirty percent of all college students will take at least one online course and this number is rising each year. The transition from in person to online can be detrimental to some and if your first experience is when you are thrown into it in college it can be daunting and leave the students feeling all alone. College professors don’t walk students through the process of online courses. However, if you have knowledge of how to learn online, submit work online, ask teachers for help, and collaborate with other students online you are way ahead of the game. You are setting yourself up for success in college.

What about Beyond College?

How does doing high school online prepare you for the working world? Almost every job requires some knowledge of how to use a computer. Whether you need to be versed in how to us Word, Excel, type fast on the keyboard or just know how to answer emails, using a computer has become a common occurrence in the work place. Learning online every day can increase your knowledge of how programs work, you will become more proficient using the keyboard and you will become faster at navigating through the web.

More than School Online

The web is becoming such a huge presence in the classroom that even social media has found its place. I was reading this article about how teachers are incorporating online elements into the classroom in order to encourage students to participate and enjoy the classroom more. We even have our own Facebook at CALPAC in order to keep students up to date with the happenings of the school and allow for a better connection to faculty, staff and their fellow students. Online learning is cutting edge and it not only teaches a student how to be organized, driven and set goals for themselves but it allows them to prepare for the future in college and the work place. With so much emphasis in California to be competitive and current in the work force, online school allows a student to do just that and enjoy school while doing it.
