Online High School Counselor Presentation
(Provided by CalPac, Wednesday, September 19, 2012)
The CALPAC Guidance Counseling Department would like to invite you to our September online presentation “How to Make a College Plan.” All students in 8th grade to 12th grade are invited and encouraged to attend virtually. Middle School students are welcome to attend, but the presentation will be primarily targeted to high school students. A presentation for middle school students and parents to prepare for college will be coming soon in the next few months.
For “How to Make a College Plan” we’ll be using a free onlinetool that is extremely helpful to prepare and search for college, explore careers, and explore financial aid options. College Board (the same organization that administers SAT tests) has a great tool called bigfuture. Take some time to check out the website below:
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/
Before the presentation, take some time to create an account (if you’ve previously registered for the SAT, your account is the same). Check out the website and start creating your plan. If you’re not sure where to start, you can view and interact with a plan without logging in. Just be aware that you can’t save your search or plan unless you create an account and/or log in.
If you don’t know where to start, here are a few short easy steps:
- Visit bigfuture.org and choose “make a plan”
- Answer a few simple questions about you
- You’ve got a plan! Choose an Activity to complete
- Track and Share your progress
- Save your plan
It’s a great idea to share your plan with your counselor. As step #4 suggests, send your online counselor a copy of your plan and give her a call!
To learn more, come to our September online high schoolcounselor presentation! Hope to see you there! For more information, feel free to email your Guidance Counselor.
