Organization/Planning in Advance with Your Education

It takes organization and planning to stay on pace in an online school.  While our program is flexible in when you complete work, it is not flexible as to the quantity of work there is.

Whether you log in at 8am or 8pm, you must log in daily and complete work.  But what are the strategies that lead to the most success?

Organize Your Work

You need to devote 5-6 hours a day to complete work for a virtual school.  However, you may break it up however you like.  It is wise to come up with a weekly schedule of set times that you work in your courses.  The more a student plans, the more likely he or she is to succeed.

The second part of organizing yourself is to know what assignments are due in each course.  Check your Assignment Calendar at the beginning of each week so you know what folders are due for each course.

Block Scheduling Your Time

While you may certainly complete work in all courses every day, I find that working on 1-2 courses a day is best.  For example, you can choose to work on math and science on Monday and Wednesday.  Then work on English and history on Tuesday and Thursday.  Friday can be devoted to PE and electives.

In fact, I notice that many successful students complete the week’s worth of work on the day of their live sessions!  They attend the live session, then immediately begin working in that course.

Carving Out Extra Time

Sometimes even with the best planning, you may have an “off” week where you get extra work that you can’t complete by Friday.  During those weeks, it is best to carve out a few hours on Saturday or Sunday to complete the work.  What I see is that students that fall behind generally continue to fall more and more behind.

The further you fall behind pace, the harder it is to catch up.
Being successful in an online school is definitely possible as long as you are organize and plan accordingly.
