Staying on Pace in an Online School Environment
(Provided by CalPac, Tuesday, November 13, 2012)
Just like being in a traditional school, an online school has daily work to complete and "homework" to take home. Here at CalPac, junior high and high school students have to get into a certain rhythm in order to ensure they are completing all weekly requirements for each of their courses.
Assignment Calendar
It is important for students to make their own assignment calendar weekly to gauge what needs to be done. They can create that weekly plan by going to their virtual classroom and clicking on their "Organizer" button, selecting "Reports" and then viewing the "Assignment Calendar" for each class. They can copy and paste each course into a word document to make sure they are completing everything listed for that week.
Entire Lesson
The most important thing to do to stay on pace is to choose the Course Map inside the virtual classroom for every course every day and complete an entire lesson including the vocabulary, direct instruction, lab, practice/homework, and quiz.
Successful Online Students
The successful students complete 4 to 5 quizzes/tests daily. They email teachers to help them if they encounter technical difficulties within the online course. If they cannot move forward because they have not mastered their lesson, they contact the teacher to work to have it removed by reviewing the lesson and getting assistance if necessary.
As always, teachers are available to offer even more tips to success here at CalPac.
