Learning social studies online can sometimes be tough, but there are things that you can do to make it easier. Often you will need to be your own investigator, but there are things you can do to help you find answers more quickly. Even though your social studies course is online, that does not mean that you are alone in your studies. Here are some great ways to get help with your courses and become engaged with the material you are learning.

Make use of your resources! There are lots of online resources at your disposal. If there is a concept you are having trouble with, try looking in an online library database for more information. Another good place to look is YouTube or Google Videos. There are often some very good documentaries posted that can help you understand the material better. Be careful that you use good websites that have reliable information. If you are unsure about a website, you can always check with your teacher.

Ask your teacher! When in doubt, you can always ask your teacher. Your teacher is one of your best tools. If you are stuck on a concept, your teacher can help point you in the right direction or give you some resources to help. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Get involved! Live sessions and online discussions with your classmates are great ways to help you learn the material. Be engaged and active in live sessions, and you will aid your own learning. Plus, you can always review the recordings later if there is something you want to review. Live session recordings can be a great way to help you review for your final exams. Make sure you double check when your teacher holds live sessions!

Review, review, review! In your course, you have lots of great tools. It is a great idea to complete the direct instruction, online content, and practice before taking a quiz or test. If you don’t score well the first time, review those materials again before taking the quiz or test again. Reviewing the material learned is the best way to ensure success in your courses.

Do not be afraid to dig into the material. The best way to learn social studies is to own the material. Always try looking at things from a new perspective, and always find a practical application. Good luck, and never be afraid to ask questions. All good historians ask questions!
