One of the larger challenges in school can be writing an essay. The following are years of tips and tricks to making writing easier and will improve your grade. These suggestions will not only help you raise your grade at CALPAC, an online school, it will make writing easier for you.

Be Organized

Writing itself is a practice of organization. The first thing you need is a place that you can sit and write that is quiet, clean, and distraction free.  Have a desk that you can use and turn off your music and videos. Next set a time to write your essay such as Monday at 3pm.

When creating the essay have a great essay. If you have something like "Superman is my hero".  That is a great sentence but it lacks substance and needs elaboration.  A better thesis would be: Superman is my hero because he can fly, save people, and cares about the human race. When writing a draft of your paper make sure to take notes and talk to other students or to your teacher if you get stuck.

Follow the Prompt

The prompt that is on the assignment is the most important part of the paper. Read the prompt 3 times. Make sure you understand every section of it. Ask your teacher if you need help. Always make sure to align the prompt and your topic. If the prompt is about green dragons then write a about green dragons and not red polka dots. Make sure you mention green dragons through the paper check each paragraph so you know you are on point.

Proofread

Always read your work several times before you submit it for a grade. Because of proof reading. Notice that last sentence. It is in correct and a fragment. It should read: Because of proofreading writing can be an issue.

Many times you can raise your score by just reading the essay out loud to you self. Find all the green and read lines that you see and make the corrections. Try to read the essay backwards. One of the great things about an online school is that you have teachers that can help you. Ask if you teacher can read your essay before your submit it.

Have a Plan

Writing at the last minute is always a problem. Always start writing an essay a few days before it is due. For example if an essay is due on Friday, start on Monday. Create a draft on Tuesday. Read for errors on Wednesday. Have a friend proofread on Thursday and turn in the essay on Friday. Give yourself some sort of reward for finishing the essay such as go see a movie with your friends or get something to eat that you really like.

To review, make sure to follow the prompt, have a plan, and proofread your work. These are some of the tips to improve the essay. Remember writing is a journey that needs to be planned out and takes time to complete. What other tips do you have? Please put them in the comments below.
