Tutoring Sessions
(Provided by CalPac, Monday, April 15, 2013)
Hello CALPAC super stars! Tutoring hours are now available to you. All of you should have received a calendar that includes your live session link, hours, and tutoring sessions for each subject and course. You can refer to this everyday and check when your teachers are available to meet with you.
So the question you may ponder now is …do I really need tutoring? This is a free service for you! Our teachers designated couples hours each day to help you get back on track on the courses you are behind and struggling in. So you may want to start going to them when you need some guidance with your coursework.
Here are some things to keep in mind when you go to tutoring sessions:
1) See your course progress and grade. Let’s say you are in the red zone- behind and have a low grade in the course and you are eager to get some help. This is when you should consider tutoring! Also, this may be due to you not understanding a specific lesson/topic and so this is red alert for tutoring time!
2) Contact your teacher for the course you need tutoring in. The tutoring hours vary for each teacher, so please refer to your handy calendars that your homeroom teachers provided for you.
3) Arrange a time with your content teacher for a specific time to meet. For example, if your math teacher’s tutoring hours are from 1-4 daily, arrange a specific time to meet with your teacher to make sure you secure that slot for yourself. Some teachers offer group tutoring as well. So make sure to let your teachers know when you will be coming in for help.
4) Come with questions. Teachers can help you better when you bring specific questions during tutoring sessions. For example, if you have a question about WWII and do not understand some of the events that occurred during this time, ask away. You can ask about verb conjugations, algebraic expressions, and more the better so your teacher can assist you thoroughly.
5) Please do not come for quiz answers. You can go over the quizzes together with your teacher but note that this is not a time to obtain answers for your tests. You are still responsible for the tasks and your teachers are here to guide and explain.
The teachers now have a good amount of students coming in for tutoring sessions and they are loving it! This shows that you care about your schoolwork and that you are willing to try your best to achieve success in your courses. For those who attend your tutoring sessions- good for you! For the rest of you who are still hesitant in asking for help- do not wait! We offer these hours for YOU and we would love to work with all of you to achieve success in your coursework. Help is here!
