Welcome Back To Your Virtual Classroom!

As we begin a new year, it is important to remember to keep everything in balance.  It is very easy to get very wrapped up in one part of your life or another, so keeping a good balance is key.  We often forget about this when we get busy with things going on in our life, and I know I am certainly guilty of this!  Learning how to keep a good work/school/life balance will help you be a more successful adult.

Your number one job right now is attending school.  Just like your parents go to work each day, your job is school.  It is the foundation for your life, so it is important to take it very seriously and work hard at it.  However, this doesn’t mean there isn’t room for other things.  Since you are an online high school student, you have a unique advantage!

You have a flexibility that most students don’t have since your courses are virtual and can travel with you anywhere you go.  This means you can choose your time of day to work on your school courses, and you still have time for the things you enjoy doing.  However, it is important that you always keep your school work at the top of the list!!!

Once you determine when you will be working on your virtual courses each day, then determine what other activities you enjoy.  It is important to keep yourself well-rounded and balanced.  You should include things that make you happy and keep you active.  For example, including a form of exercise into your daily life will help keep your mind clear, body fit and healthy, and give you more energy.

Make time for this each day to help you stay balanced mentally and physically.  Also include things you enjoy that are non-academic.  Engaging in activities like reading, gaming, sewing, scrap-booking, photography, hanging out with friends, cooking, gardening, and many others will help you stay creative and give you very important “me time”.

Remember, you want to keep yourself focused and alert on your online school work during the day, but it is good to kick up your heels once the hard work is done!  Let yourself take a break after a hard day of calculus, history, or English.  Reward yourself with something you enjoy so you can hit the books (or computer in this case!) hard again tomorrow.  Allow yourself time to recharge and re-energize.

Having time for yourself to do activities you love is crucial to keep a strong mental balance in your life.  You want to make sure that you make time for things that you enjoy so that you have time to disconnect and relax.  Put your phone away, turn off the computer, and enjoy a good book or show!

Your assignment this week is find something outside of school that you love and do it!
