What you will need.
• A pen
• A Highlighter
• Some Paper
• A monthly Calendar
• A Weekly Calendar with time slots
• An Active Brain
• A Clear understanding of what you need to accomplish
Before we begin you must first answer the following questions.
1. What are my overall goals for this school year?
2. What are my goals for each class?
3. What are my goals for my extracurricular activities?
Once you have written down your goals go through all your goals ask yourself the following questions for each goal.
1. What will it take to achieve this goal?
2. How many hours per week do I need to dedicate to this goal?
Now make a note of all your commitments by asking yourself these questions.
1. What are my daily commitments? Commitments include school work, appointments, family obligations etc.
2. What are my daily requirements? For example, I need to be in bed by 9:30pm in order to wake up by 5:30am to get ready for football practice.
A commitment can also be a goal. For example, I need to arrive 30 minutes early to volleyball practice in order to work on my techniques so that I can make the varsity team.
Now that you know your commitments you can create a plan that reflect your goals and your commitments.
1. How many hours per week can I dedicate to my studies?
2. How many days must I dedicate to my studies? How many hours per day can I dedicate to my studies.
Create a Weekly Plan.
1. Which days can I dedicate to my studies?
2. Which day(s) do I want to take a break from studying?
3. When are my extracurricular activities.
Create a Daily Plan
1. When do I do my best work?
2. How often do I need to take a break?
3. How many hours can I spend in each class per day?
Make a note of distractions.
1. Can I work while my little sister is in the room?
2. Do I need to turn off my phone while studying
It is now time to create your plan.
Step 1: Mark all your commitments in your monthly calendar. Choose a color and highlight any commitment that will keep you from doing anything else for the entire day. Save this calendar as reference and update it whenever you make a new commitment.
Step 2: Use a highlighter to block out your study times in the weekly calendar. Enter your study time for each subject and extracurricular activity. Don’t forget to include break time.
Step 3: Follow your plan.
Reflection:
1. Did you include everything in your study plan?
2. Can you recruit anyone to help you follow your plan?
3. Where you able to follow your plan this week.
